A symbol of peace at the heart of Delhi: Walk to Vishwa Shanti Stupa

Details: Vishwa Shanti Stupa, also called Peace Pagoda, is commonly known as a Buddhist monument, a symbol of an effort to establish peace on Earth.


It’s a humble endeavour to give the message of the importance of peace in our lives. There are many peace pagodas all over the world, and Vishwa Shanti Stupa in Delhi is an important pillar of this remarkable circle. The Stupa was inaugurated in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with the hope to cultivate peace as envisioned by Fujii Guruji.


Further, to create ecology of peace, a Japanese garden has also been developed around the Stupa. The Vishwa Shanti Stupa committee and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), along with Fujii Guruji established this symbol of peace.


The walk would include:


  • An hour long specialised walk programme
  • Stilling Session
  • Story telling session on basics of Buddhism
  • Customised literature

How to Reach:


Taxi/Auto: If you are coming from India Gate, head south-east on Shershah Rd towards Justice SB Marg and drive for 0.5 km. Turn left onto Mathura Rd and drive for 0.4 km. Turn right onto Bhairon Marg, pass by Pragati Maidan (on the left). Thereafter, turn right onto NH44, drive for around 1.3 km. Keep left to continue on AH2. Drive for 0.4 km and turn right onto NH 24. At around 26 m, turn right onto NH44. The destination will be on the left.


If you are coming from Ashram, head south-east towards Railway Line Rd, drive for 0.2 km. Turn left onto Railway Line Rd. At 89 m, turn left towards NH48 and drive for 0.1 km. Turn left onto NH44 and continue on the highway for 0.3 km. Slight left to stay on NH44, pass by Bata (on the left in 450 m), drive for 0.6 km. Exit to stay on NH44 and pass by Shiv Mandir (on the left), drive for around 1.3 km. Keep right to stay on NH44 for about 1.0 km. Turn left and drive for 0.7 km, before merging onto NH44 again. The destination will be on the left.


Metro: The nearest metro station is Indraparshtha Metro Station. Take an auto from here to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa. If you are planning to walk, the destination is about 2 kilometers from the metro station. After exiting from the metro station, walk south on NH44 towards Bhairon Marg. Pass by Transport Dept Delhi (on the right in 79 m). Turn right onto Bhairon Marg, and then turn left onto NH44. Walk for around 1 km. The destination will be on the right.


Bus: All buses plying on inner Ring Road will drop you at Indraparshtha Park’s bus stop.
